For the #CSRchat initiated, I don’t have to explain how exciting it is that this Wednesday (May 1st) at the Business4Better conference, the one and only founder and host of #CSRchat, Susan McPherson will be chatting live.
And to add to the awesomeness of that, on a very personal note, ‘I’ get to interview her!
I am turning the tables on Susan and making her the guest of her own chat. We will be chatting both virtually and live – at the same time — and we hope you’ll join us for this great experiment. It will be a true test of our social media / multitasking abilities.
Here on the Business4Better blog we talk about all facets of corporate social responsibility, CSR, but in honor of earthday, today we are going to focus on the environment and sustainable existence.
To start the day on the right foot, here are my top ten Twitter accounts to follow to be ‘in the know’ on the topics of sustainability: Continue reading
Social Media is often thought of as a place to express oneself to the world; sometimes selfishly and for personal gain, and sometimes for the betterment of the world around us. It has proved to be a powerful tool for social good.
People are using social media to organize and create a better world.
No where is this more evident than in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Every step a company makes, whether it be good or bad, is easily broadcast over social and consumers expect organizations to be responsible citizens in their communities more than ever.
With that in mind, below is a list of the most influential and, in our opinion, interesting CSR thought leaders to follow on Twitter. Continue reading
Future business success depends on taking personal responsibility for sustainability, argues Mark Coleman in his new book, The Sustainability Generation: The Politics of Change and Why Personal Accountability is Essential NOW!
“You will be in a world where natural resources are constrained and recruitment and retention are difficult,” Coleman warned in an interview. What’s required, then, are businesses and products built around engaged employees and social responsibility.
Coleman points to Green Mountain Coffee Roasters as an example. The company invests in the communities that grow its beans, he observed, not out of some abstract sense of obligation or philanthropy, but because keeping that environment healthy is a basic requirement for getting high-quality, low-cost beans. Sustainability is core to the business strategy. Continue reading

As focus shifts from checkbook philanthropy to active, hands-on community involvement, mid-size enterprises are rising up to get employees and their brands more engaged in the communities they serve.
Large Enterprises have been at the forefront of the corporate social responsibility landscape with organized sustainability programs for a number of years. But midmarkets are now prime to make their own impact.
The word ‘free’ doesn’t come up often enough in my opinion, but I’m so happy that it has in this case.
Every worthy nonprofit deserves a bit of ‘free.’
Business4Better has opened the application process for qualifying nonprofit organizations interested in fostering deeper and more impactful relationships with businesses to secure a free exhibit space at our inaugural event. Continue reading
